Hopes and Dreams

"Do not lose hold of your dreams or aspirations. For if you do, you may still exist but you have ceased to live."~~ Henry David Thoreau

A thing of beauty is a joy forever

Irises-- Vincent Van Gogh

My favorite thing for the day.

2 more days till New Year.

Tick Tack, Tick Tack...

Time is what prevents everything from happening at once.

I don't know where I found this picture, but this is my official Christmas card.

I am looking for a New Year card, now that 2012 is coming.

Actually, it is three days away.

Did you do your resolution yet?

For all of you that don't know much about Chinese astrology, 2012 will be the year of the Dragon... What it means? Let's just say it will be more fire-y than the Rabbit year we are just ending.

Happy Holidays!

Dear Cupcakes

Fact:
A Crumbs cupcake has around 500 calories. You eat it in about 5 minutes.

Fact:
In order to burn 500 calories, you need to work out for at least one hour.

Cupcakes, I love you, but I am tired trying to find excuses for your existence.

Yed, Red Velvet Crumbs Cupcake, I am talking to you.

Maybe I should just switch to a Carrot Cupcake. I mean, what's healthier out there than carrots.

"The online nutrition database MyFitnessPal notes that one carrot cupcake contains 410
calories. If you base your diet on the suggested intake of 2,000 calories per day, then one
 cupcake comprises more than 20 percent of your daily calories. According to the Mayo
Clinic, it would take nearly two hours of weightlifting to burn these calories."-- from

Two hours of weightlifting?

Right, count me in.

Empty LA

"Photographer Matt Logue has published a book of beautiful photographs entitled "Empty L.A.". As a resident of Metropolitan Los Angeles, I find these photographs strikingly surreal and ameliorative. They're not all Freeway shots (as above); some are beach scenes; others depict a tranquil Downtown, utterly devoid of people and cars. I have no idea how he did them. TheWEBSITE for this project is well-worth perusal."

This is a stolen blog entry from a mysterious blogger, just to help me get back into my own writing.

My name is Marc

Paris through the Window, Marc Chagall, 1913

"My name is Marc, my emotional life is sensitive and my purse is empty, but they say I have talent."~ Marc Chagall

After a While

After a While

"After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,

And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn...
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure...

That you really are strong

And you really do have worth...

And you learn and learn...

With every good-bye you learn.”

A Liter of Light

Go here if you want to learn more, share or donate.

Now I think of all my Evian bottles going into the recycle bin.

I want them to go here and be transformed in light instead of floating on the Pacific Ocean.

Vogue Espana

Natasha Poly is the guest editor of Vogue Espana and I think somebody needs to get this for me asap.
Just because I need hair ideas, and Natasha has the best hair out there.
She also has the best cheekbones, but that's not much I can do to get those.
Actually, there is. Facial exercise.
I actually have the book and DVD. I need to actually start doing the work now.

Pictures from my morning walk.

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.~ E. E. Cummings.

Hello Kitty Smart

Things you get to see in the world.

Hello, I am a Hello Kitty Smart car, I go places and fit into tiny parking spaces.

I also can be used as a cuddling device.

Starving for Shoes

This is what I found in my CVS trip today.
I think the right shoe should say "Saving for Shoes" and the left "Starving for Shoes."
I am willing to do both.

And this bag too.
Saving for Bags.
I really like the new YSL logo... so much more minimalistic than the old one.
For connoisseurs.

Midnight Sun in Iceland

Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward is offered for they are gone forever.”~ Horace Mann

Versace & HM

There are still three weeks to go, but I made up my mind. Whatever happened to me during the Lanvin & HM launch won't happen again, I will be there at 3am and get my share.  What I like so far:

This leather dress is perfect. I have no idea where I could wear it, but I want to offer it a home.
This bustier silk dress will be offered a home also.
And three is better than two, clothing wise.
So here comes number 3.
Four is better than three... but, a girl needs to know when to stop.

Sunshine all the time makes a desert.

My beautiful friend Sonia took the most amazing pictures at Burning Man this year. I decided to steal some from her Facebook ( freely download them, they belong to Facebook now anyway) and beautify my blog.

Lou Andreas Salome

Lou Andreas Salome

I am reading Lou Salome's biography and it is pretty interesting. How can it be otherwise, talking about a woman that was close friends with Nietzsche, Rilke and Freud.

"To Nietzsche, she was the "the smartest person I ever knew," the perfect heir to his philosophy, "the best and most fruitful ploughland" for his ideas. To Rainer Maria Rilke, she was an "extraordinary woman" without whose influence "my whole development would not have been able to take the paths that have led to many things." And to Sigmund Freud, she was "an understander par excellence," the second woman in his life (after his beloved sister-in-law Minna Bernays) and the only woman among his colleagues with whom he would maintain a long and continuous correspondence.
Although Lou Andreas-Salome is best known today for her relationships with these three men of genius, she was well known in her own right during the early years of this century as both a writer and a psychoanalyst. She commuted between artistic circles in Berlin, Vienna, Paris and St. Petersburg during the formative years of modern European culture, and her writings -- on religion, psychoanalysis and women -- reflected many of the themes that would preoccupy thinkers throughout this century."~ from NY Times

Desiderata

My friend Julieta shared this poem with me, so I thought I will write it down here.
It's a 1927 prose poem written by American poet Max Ehrmann.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Cafe Press 2

Mulberry--Mulberry, oh Mulberry, you are so silly.

Bally--It is physically impossible for those girls to hold the bags like this. Did you photoshop the bags in after? It is ok if you did, everybody does it.

Color Wheel

Somebody didn't agree with my Green and Red statement and sent me the Color Wheel.
Thank you, Reader.

Cafe Press-- Vogue part 1

This month’s US Vogue has 758 pages, with lots of expensive advertising and lots of interesting articles that will make you younger, better looking and skinnier. They might even add a few points to your IQ. Let’s see.

I had a moment in my life when I wanted to write for Vogue magazine… I would have been something like Lauren Santo Domingo (the girl that never washes her hair by herself), but it wasn’t in the cards for me. My one of a kind article was rejected by the almighty Anna Wintour, my dreams were crashed and that was that.

So, today I decided to be a Vogue writer anyway, for their September issue.
The most important issue of the year, the articles would be nothing but… brilliant.
Let’s see what we find.

As some of you know, English is not my first language so I might be missing some language nuances here, but here we go.

First page, Ralph Lauren Romance Perfume Ad. Great, means they paid the most money for advertising. And I don’t think I will be buying the perfume, they could have put a sample in instead of just pics.

Prada- The girls are wearing some helmets and look like they are on xanax

Dior Ad- Marion Cottilard wearing a Dior bag and a jacket that looks Chanel-y to me. Pour quoi faire ca, Marion?

Ralph Lauren again- a really ugly ad, too much red and green. Why? I understand that they are complementary colors, but still you could have done better. I could have made a better campaign for less than 1000$, model included.

Modern Mercury for Estee Lauder- Seriously, is this the best makeup you can do, Estee Lauder MUA? And I supposed you charged about $10,000 for the shoot.

Gucci- Sleepwalking Zombies, my opinion at least.

Lancome new Serum—“Discover why one out of two women would postpone a cosmetic procedure.”
Oh no!

Fendi—Is she really painting in that ad? She is way too clean to be painting.
Great makeup, the Estee Lauder people should give Fendi people a call.

To be continued... we are going to get into the articles next.
