Miro Vogue cover

Yes, this is a French Vogue cover, and yes, the artist is Joan Miro.

I wonder when Vogue will decide to let Lara Stone keep her clothes on and will actually do a cover like this again.

You can look at a painting for a whole week and then never think about it again. You can also look at a painting for a second and think about it for the rest of your life.” ~~ Joan Miro

I can resist everything but temptation!

Ok, so after the last post which was totally, ultimately against cupcakes, guess what I did?

I went straight to Crumbs.

Do you see these two red velvet cupcakes tanning on the deck?

One belongs to me.

Well, it's gone now.

Bon Appetit!

Hello, cupcakes!!

Hello, cupcakes!!
Another Polyvore set from my Polyvore secret designer.

The Butterfly Circus

This short film brought tears to my eyes.

We should all take a moment and just be grateful for what we have and who we are.

Here is Nick Vujicic's website, the main character of this short film.

Where did I find these beauties?

Every fashionista knows this site, at least that's what I thought until I realized my fashionista friend didn't know about it.
And yes, I want to increase her shopping possibilities, so more about Polyvore just for her.

In just a few clicks, these aspiring stylists, artists, and creative kids-next-door can turn out a trendy head-to-toe look by tapping Polyvore’s vast database of designer apparel and accessories. Happy Birthday, Diana!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful friend Diana!
Wishing you all the love and happiness in the world!

Sonnet 104, William Shakespeare

To me, fair friend, you never can be old,

For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold
Have from the forests shook three summers' pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turn'd
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burn'd,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah, yet doth beauty, like a dial-hand,
Steal from his figure and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion and mine eye may be deceived:
   For fear of which, hear this, thou age unbred;
Ere you were born was beauty's summer dead.

On the set

On the set of Burt Wonderstone

At Frank Sinatra's old house. One of them.
I heard that Marilyn Monroe had her last photo shoot by this pool.
Also, if you look hard enough you might find a movie star in this picture.
But you have to look really hard.

Cinemagraphs II

Another cinemagraph from here.

I found this article in The Atlantic, explaining more about how Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg are creating these beautiful images.

"We began seriously creating them during fashion week this past February. Our first few animated images were sequenced still shots looped in rapid succession which is a fairly common way of making an animated image. From there we began utilizing more fluid motion isolated in certain parts of an image to capture a moment of time, but also to un-freeze a still photograph by showing that moment's temporal movement. The process involves still and video photography but editing is very manual and varies greatly from one to another so we're routinely solving new problems when creating them.
We feel there are many exciting applications for this type of moving image. There's movement in everything and by capturing that plus the great things about a still photograph you get to experience what a video has to offer without the time commitment a video requires. There's something magical about a still photograph -- a captured moment in time -- that can simultaneously exist outside the fraction of a second the shutter captures.
To put it in less "artspeak" form: Our Cinemagraphs are a way of adding motion to a still image. On average, the more intricate ones take a day to edit and the simpler ones take 3-4 hours. It's something we'd been experimenting with for about a year but it really came together during fashion week with the post "Les Tendrils" and culminated with "Anna Sees Everything" which touches on the "ultimate portrait" -- an image that captures the essence of a person through an action or a scene they are closely associated with. Another example of that is "We all get dressed for Bill." The image format of these is .gif -- and that's been highly influential to their style since a .gif adds many interesting and archaic limitations to what is possible. The .gif format is practically as old as the internet itself and we find it interesting that as a format it's getting new life, particularly on Tumblr. But ultimately it's a delivery mechanism in the same way JPEG is to still images."

Really Beautiful.

"More than a photo, but not quite a video"., said Coca Rocha, the pretty girl in the picture above.

I would agree with her.

One Ten Twenty Ten

Photo credit: My friend. I know it's beautiful, try to not steal it and go look for your own sunrise.

If Six Was Nine

Go here and purchase this.

If Six was Nine is a secret fashion brand from Japan.
They don't advertise and you don't see their stuff in magazines much... but everything is so ethereal and just beautiful that I had to write about them.
Hand made in Japan, inspired from art, music and photography.

Check their website here

As I was researching it, I found out that If Six was Nine is the name of a song from Jimi Hendrix, so it is only fair that I post that song also.

You'll never give up on a dream after seeing this woman

As I am going through my bookmarks to find things that inspired me, I found this story that first aired on Oprah.
It's about Tererai Trent, a woman from Zimbabwe that had a dream of education while not being able to go to school as a young girl. Her dream was to go to America and get a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's and a PhD.
Tererai is Oprah's all-time favorite guest and she donated 1.5 million in order for Tererai to built her old school in her old village in Zimbabwe.
All her dreams came true.

Here is the story.

Antonio Marras

I love Antonio Marras.
He is an Italian designer from Sardinia that used to be the creative director at Kenzo and now he is in charge of his two brands, Antonio Marras and  Isola Marras.
Here is the website for Isola Marras, you have to click on Story and play with the Peppeddu the dog... it is such a cute animated website that this is the main reason I am writing this post.
And here is an Antonio Marras drape top, right now on sale on Farfetch.
So perfect for every day.
Too bad Terri doesn't carry this brand. ( for my insiders).

Made Her Think

Meredith Kahn's Made Her Think is one of my favorite jewelry lines.

Let's start with the name. If you play WordGame long enough, you figure out that Made Her Think is a variation of her own name.

Another thing I love is her website, you can find it here. It is so dreamy and ethereal, especially if you watch the collections. They all have a story and it is said in such an unique way, especially for fashion.

And the jewelry is pretty also.

“Jewelry should be viewed with innocence, with artlessness,
just as we enjoy the sight of an apple tree in blossom
at the side of the road as we speed past in a motor-car.”
~~Coco Chanel

TED talk of the day

I was thinking what to write on my blog. I like writing about fashion and posting pictures of pretty dresses and jewelry, but I am a grown up and I can't do that every day.

So, I was looking through my hundreds of bookmarks so I thought I will share some of them with my readers. My readers mostly get to this blog because they type "Miro" into Google. Well, maybe I should have made a blog about Joan Miro, or at least posted more pictures of his work. I might, so that the hundreds of Miro fans that land here won't be totally disappointed.

Until then, one of my favorite videos from TED, about how this 14 year old kid from Malawi built a windmill from spare parts, in order to generate electricity for his home. If he could do that, what stops you to ( )? You can fill up the blanks at your leisure.

Six reasons why Breaking Bad is the best show on television.

Art Deco

Woman in Blue with Mandolin~~ Tamara de Lempicka, 1929

"Lempicka is best known for her Art Deco-styled portraits. Sexy, bedroom-eyed women in stylish dress are rendered in haunting poses. Perhaps it was her own dramatic life mirrored in her art. Married twice to wealthy, she moved from her native Poland to Russia, and then to Paris. In 1918, she studied painting at the Academe de la Grand Chaumiere, and was privately tutored by Maurice Denis. In 1925 she exhibited her works at the first Art Deco show in Paris. She moved to America in 1939 with her second husband, Baron Raoul Kuffner. Her works appeared exclusively at many galleries and museums, but her artistic output decreased. In 1960 she changed her style to abstract art and began creating works with a spatula. After her husband died in 1962 she ceased painting and moved to Mexico."-- from Women in Art
