You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

Another beautiful photograph that my friend shot this morning.
Do not steal it please, you will be able to get it from her upcoming photography book.
Thank you.

I can resist everything but temptation!

Ok, so after the last post which was totally, ultimately against cupcakes, guess what I did?

I went straight to Crumbs.

Do you see these two red velvet cupcakes tanning on the deck?

One belongs to me.

Well, it's gone now.

Bon Appetit!

Happy Birthday, Diana!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful friend Diana!
Wishing you all the love and happiness in the world!

Sonnet 104, William Shakespeare

To me, fair friend, you never can be old,

For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold
Have from the forests shook three summers' pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turn'd
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burn'd,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah, yet doth beauty, like a dial-hand,
Steal from his figure and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion and mine eye may be deceived:
   For fear of which, hear this, thou age unbred;
Ere you were born was beauty's summer dead.

One Ten Twenty Ten

Photo credit: My friend. I know it's beautiful, try to not steal it and go look for your own sunrise.

Earth laughs in Flowers.

Pictures from my morning walk.

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.~ E. E. Cummings.

How Twitter is a blue bird

The Blue Bird
Marc Chagall 1968

(aka Twitter)

Why do birds sing so early in the morning?

I just want to know the answer to this right now.

Maybe knowing the answer will put me right back to sleep.

Let's see what Google says.

They are trying to impress mates ( but, of course) and proclaim territories.

Some of them can sign 2000 songs a day.

Some of them just one.

Ok, you've proclaimed your territory and you've found a bird wife, now you can relax.

And, listen to this:

"In North America, we hear mostly males singing, because they typically take the lead in defending territories and attracting mates. However, especially in the tropics, some species sing duets involving both the male and female."
Excerpt from birds.cornell.edu

Now That is interesting.

"Hear the birds? Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm deaf and I try to imagine what it's like not to be able to hear them. It's not that bad."~Larry David

James Perse Malibu

James Perse Malibu. I took this picture while shopping for cupcakes next door.

Check out my old Maxfield story, and don't forget that James Perse is the son of the Maxfield's owner, Tommy Perse. Even their stores look like father and son.

I hope James Perse won’t sue me for this one. No, James Perse t-shirts do not actually talk, except on this blog. This is the place where clothes have a voice, and stand up for themselves.

Welcome to my closet, plain white James Perse t-shirt that costs $50. All my other plain tshirts feel already intimidated, but this day had had to come. I mean, how many times can you enter a store without buying something?

All the plain tshirts in my closet are wondering. What does he have that we don’t? We are all plain cotton tshirts, why is James Perse tshirt so expensive. So, they decided to do a revolt against the James Perse tshirt.

A plain H&M tshirt was the leader:
“We don’t see the difference between us and this James Perse t-shirt. We don’t want to be worn anymore… I suppose it will last 10 times more than we do, because it’s so expensive.”
“Common, T-shirts. It’s not that I bought this Balmain t-shirt. Be friendly.”
But they wouldn’t listen and they decided to strike.

Which is fine. I really like wearing tshirts with jeans, so I didn’t have any other option than wearing the James Perse tshirt over and over again. The result? It broke like any other tshirt, got old pretty quickly after a few washes and I decided to make it a sleeping tshirt.
Lucky me, the regular tshirts decided to end the strike and accepted to be worn again.
The lesson: sometimes we can live without designer labels. When the label is more important than the actual item, we need to think twice about the reason behind our purchase.

Waiting list for Missoni loves Havaianas

Ok, I am not on a waiting list for Hermes (see the Birkin story), but I am on a waiting list for Havaianas. Missoni loves ( how do you draw a heart?) Havaianas is sold out everywhere, but we are on the waiting list at the Missoni store in Malibu. I can't wait to spend the summer in these shoes.
Here is another Kate Moss for you Kate Moss-fans that type Kate Moss into google day and night.
And these are the cute little flip-flops that I am waiting for. Missoni store, call me.

Dylan George Jeans against Cupcakes

To fit into a pair of 24 jeans is a dream come true. It means a lot of things: that the daily power walks when you would rather be sleeping are actually working, that drinking more than two liters of water a day actually gives results.

Also, that restricting yourself to one Crumbs Red Velvet Cupcake a week is actually a good idea

Ok, this pair is a sample so it might be something wrong with the sizing, but it’s ok. It might be my first and last pair of 24s, ever, but thanks Dylan George ( amazing Los Angeles jeans) for messing up your samples and making my day a little bit better.

Maison de Diana

Here is a first sample for you to see what I’ve been up lately, fashion wise.

This is an asymmetric top that has black pearls along the neckline. Well, not this specific sample, this one has beads for some unknown reason… but the final sample is going to have pearls.

The fabric is really soft, as in James Perse kind of soft. Or at least this is what I’ve been going for. It’s a combination of silk, cashmere and cotton, I think 70% silk, I need to look at my specs to remember the exact info and I am too comfortable writing this to look for them.

So, there it is. More samples to come that I am going to show on this blog first.

Isabel Marant pink shorts

Pink Shorts on Gisele
Pink Shorts by themselves

I like Isabel Marant. I really do. She actually makes wearable things. With a price tag.

I really like these pink shorts. They are $220 and they are sold out.

Reasons why to buy these shorts:

1.Gisele wears them in the ad.

2.Other fashionistas wear them.

3.They look like bubble gum.

Reasons why not to buy these shorts:

1.They are $220.

2.They are not long enough to offer possible cellulite protection.

3.It’s something that will be out of fashion by next summer. Isabel Marant will come up with other shorts idea.

4.I don’t have Gisele’s legs.

5.I am not tan enough and I refuse to get tan.

6.H&M or Zara will make the exact shorts any day now, in the same color. For about $40. All you need is patience.

7.I am not tall enough and I refuse to wear platforms with these shorts while shopping at Super Care.

8.My social activities do not require a pink pair of shorts. I can always wear them sea glass hunting on Malibu Road but I doubt it will help me find more glass.

9.They are sold out and I hope they stay like this.

10. I can’t think of a reason nr.10 but I am sure it’s out there. Suggestions welcome.

3-10 Decision Made.

Chanel

When I will be a movie star ( any day now) I want to be Diane Kruger in Chanel. I randomly decided this today, after seeing an amazing Chanel dress at Maxfield.
I could easily fit in this bag.
We don't discuss boyfriends, we discuss dresses here.
Vintage Chanel.
I remember some Hollywood fashion critics didn't like this dress.
Also, their names were Joan and Melissa Rivers.

To end with a quote from Coco Chanel, as I've seen way too many women wearing sweats today.

“I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”

Maybe all those women in sweats met their destiny already.

Here is the view. Where can it be?
Here is the food.

Maxfield

Welcome to Maxfield!
Come in, don't be scared! I'm not the Devil, I am just a puppet.
Should we or shouldn't we?

Ok, so we are here at Cross Creek Malibu right now and we step into the forbidden land: Maxfield.
Maxfield is so high-end, I think they invented the term high-end. You can totally spend one month’s rent on a tshirt. Or 3 months. Or a year’s, depending on your location. Or you can save for a lifetime and still afford nothing. A plain tshirt can be as much as the GPA of… let’s think, there are so many to choose from… let’s say Cote D’Ivoire. I bet you thought they are rich, they kind of have a cool name.
I love this Balmain’s tshirt instructions:

“Blue silk chain detail top by Balmain. This v-neck sleeveless top has gold chain detail at the neck..

Item ID : 10057982

Composition :
silk : 100 %

Other Information :
washing instructions : don't wash/don't dry clean/don't tumble dry”

Ok, that means you are supposed to do what with it, after wearing it out for one night ? Any ideas?
We love that Maxfields has a bodyguard at the door. I don’t totally get it, but it looks kind of intimidating so I guess that’s his purpose.
Daniela: Let’s go in.
Me: We can’t buy anything anyway.
Daniela: Let’s just look.
Me: Ok.
Bodyguard: I know you don’t have buying intentions. I can sense it.Go in anyway, I don’t have the authority to stop you.
We: Thank you Bodyguard.
We totally recommend Maxfield if you are a famous actress, a desperate housewife and … that’s about all. Who else? Let us know if you are out there and shopped at Maxfield, we would love to hear what dry cleaning you use.
