The Global Medical Relief Fund
60 Minutes on CBS showed a very emotional story on Sunday. It was about a woman in Staten Island who changed the lives of more than 100 crippled children, mostly from war zones. She didn't have a lot of money or training in humanitarian relief, but she made a difference in the lives of these children, one child at a time. Her non-profit is called The Global Medical Relief Fund and it's a small organization, that I wouldn't have been aware if not for 60 Minutes.
Here is the link to the 60 Minutes on CBS, where you can read more about this story.
Here is the link to The Global Medical Relief Fund, if you wish to help, they accept donations as little as $1.
I know this blog is mostly about fashion, style & such. But life is so much more than this, and we need to always help the others, whenever we have a chance.
And be grateful for what we have.
"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.” Buddha

Vogue Shape
Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott pay tribute to the world’s best bodies in the pages of Vogue’s Shape Issue, April 2011
Lara. I am not crazy about her, but somebody in my household is.
To end up in the Vogue Shape Issue after three kids, well, that's a dream come true for Natalia Vodianova.
Speaking of Natalia, isn't this the cutest picture ever.
Here she is with her daughter Neva, another Vogue image from an earlier issue. Cute Cute Cute.
As for me, fast walking anyone? Pilates? Spin, hike, anything? After seeing these pics I really need a work out.

I am cold and I want this. Stop smoking Sasha.
Burberry Prorsum Jacket.
Prorsum, as in more expensive than regular Burberry.
Sasha Pivovarova for Numero.
She looks like she's warm. It might be the jacket or the cigarette.
I guess it's cool to smoke in fashion editorials.
In real life, it's kind of stupid.
It gets you dead. You know, they have evidence. It called science.
I still want the jacket.

What better thing to do on a rainy afternoon than make a vision board of your home? I love the mix of whites and patterns, fairy tale and modern, dreamy style.
About the chandeliers, I want them in the trees too, Cafe Malibu style.
That's about all.
Actually, plus this kitchen. I don't know where the image is from, so if it is your kitchen let me know.
It needs a little bit of Carolyn prints. And white floors. I'll take it anyway.

Gwyneth Paltrow
This coat is so Gwyneth Paltrow.
The hair is so Gwyneth Paltrow too.
This is Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenenbaums. Movie that I hated and that I now love.
This is her blog, where you go and follow her diets and not only.
I'm wearing two coats from the new Dolce Cabo collection. More to come.
Or is Gwyneth Paltrow wearing the same coat? I am confused. It is undetermined who is who and who wears what.
Ok, who is this person and why is she jumping in my post? Really. This post is about me and Gwyneth and, whoever you are, please go away.
Image from The Sartorialist , of course. Please go back to your blog and do not interfere with my story.

Jefferson's 10 Rules
This is a piece of paper on my wall.
I thought I would share it with you.
These words were written more than 200 years ago... still, they are so actual now. We, humans, didn't change much. We have internet and iphones and twitter and facebook, but we are all the same as two hundred years ago... Still humans.

Old Navy Casting or Run, Baby, Run.
Old Navy Casting.
Wearing Alexander McQueen dress, Alexander McQueen scarf, and Salvadore Ferragamo sandals.
The socks are wool, and optional.
Role Description: Lead female performer 20's--very indie rock with upbeat flair and driving summer beats. We will have a male and female singing a duet; the vibe is light, upbeat and summery. Talent will be lip synching during auditions.
Wardrobe: hip and summer cool. Shorts, rompers, and summer dresses.
It's an amazing day in Hollywood. What else is there to do other than go to this casting? You can always get the big commercial to pay the bills for a year (or forever). For a day of work. Wouldn't that be nice?
Casting Director
Slate you name, height and profile.
Me
Ok. Diana, 5 feet 7 1/2 inches.
CD
You will be paired with a guy and you will be the singing and dancing couple. Think Glee. Think Broadway.
Me ( thinking to myself)
I want to leave. I want to leave now.
CD
This is your partner. Go rehearse outside.
Me ( thinking to myself)
I want to leave. I want to leave. I don't sing and dance. Why I am here? This is Old Navy. I don't even wear Old Navy. Old Navy is so unfashionable; I am wearing Alexander McQueen. Why am I wearing McQueen again? Do I own anything Old Navy? Poor Alexander, he shouldn't have killed himself.
Guy
I am your partner. Let's rehearse.
Me
Ok.
We go outside on Sunset Boulevard. He had the song on his iPhone. He knows the lyrics. This is weird. The song is called "Barbecutie". I wonder how much time the ad agency put into this one. I forgot the lyrics, but it's about rompers and dresses and style and shorts.
I should leave. No, I will stay and embarrass myself and then blog about it. How hard can it be? You have to lip synch, right? I can't even tell when people are lip synching. They can say whatever, right?
Now, we're inside the room. The music starts. I lip synch. I don't know the lyrics. It's odd. The chair is spinning. The guy spins my chair. We sit up. We continue the lip synch. I think I lip synch his part too. This is weird. We are happy. It is Glee; it's Broadway.
And Cut.
The next singing couple is entering.
We leave, oddly dressed, to our cars.

Forget love, I'd rather fall in chocolate.
This is The Delboeuf Illusion. It is an optical illusion of relative size perception. Pretty simple, yes?
Now imagine food portions instead of the black circles. Yes, I could have made some food and taken pictures on it on different sizes plates... but, it's good to use your imagination from time to time. Imagine, let's say, some chicken and fries. Seeing the first plate, you would think " I will need more, this is not enough". In a smaller plate, "This is a lot of food, I will be fed with this."
This is what Dr. Brian Wansink discovered, and you can read this and more in his book " Mindless eating".Here is the website.
Optical illusion leads us to make inaccurate estimates of serving size, depending on what the size of the plate. The more "white space" around the circle, the smaller it appears and you feel you need more.
Sizes in US are so much bigger than the ones in Europe. No wonder so many people are overweight. I don't think this alone will make people lose weight, but it's a start. Start using smaller plates.
What you serve on these small plates, this is another story.
Try this:
Levitating Burger
You can place this in a small plate also. And eat guilt-free.

Destination: Santa Barbara
So, I checked-in today on Facebook at State Street in Santa Barbara. That means that I was there. 21st century language.
State Street.
Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping.
The Court. If you want to see the view of the city. Or if you get a traffic ticket and live there.
The interior of the Court. I will gladly pay a ticket here. Or be a judge.
The view of the city. Santa Barbara, named after the saint, in 1602.
Santa Barbara Mission. Founded in 1786.
Yes, I changed outfits... Or, did I?
